Saira came to the University of Bradford to study for a PhD in Cancer Research to further the work she was already doing at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMH & RC) in Lahore, Pakistan.

“The education and support I received at the Universityof Bradford’s Institute of Cancer Therapeutics (ICT) hasgreatly helped me in becoming a confident researcher. Mysupervisors’ were particularly helpful; one with industrialexperience and another with experience in academia meantI was fortunate in learning both aspects from them. Thegenuine support from these colleagues helped me realisethe importance of working as part of a team. "

Now back in Pakistan, Saira is working back at SKMH & RC as Junior Research Scientist. The hospital in collaboration with the University of Bradford supported her PhD. Saira has started a research project centred on Oral Cancer which is prevalent in Pakistan affecting high numbers of the population. I met so many different people all in one city as if I had toured the world. This helped me to grow my patience for others. When I passed my PhD and my supervisors and colleagues celebrated with cake and congratulated me and in that moment, I didn’t feel that I was 8000 miles away from my family. The staff at the University are always willing to help; Ididn’t have one bad experience throughout my 4 yearstay. I am very thankful to them all for taking such good care of me.“
